Slow doesn’t come naturally to me. I like to get everything done, all at once, right now. I’m a big fan of jumping in and getting on with the task, and hey, if it’s not perfect that’s fine, right, at least it’s something. Trying to re-write this script is hard.
In other words… progress on my outdoor bath is stalling. I’ve started to make the frame – I’ve rescued timber from the side of the road and cut it into the lengths I need. But then I realised I hadn’t thought through how I was going to attach the wood to each other – as I’m attaching it through the width, rather than at the end, nails and screws just aren’t going to work. A short internet search suggested dowels. I liked the idea, if only because I really really like the word ‘dowel’. Maybe it’s a warped hangover of being a Douglas Adams fan (dowel, towel, it all makes sense, honest).
Finally, today, I bought the dowels, and worked out how to make the right size holes (the internet was surprisingly unhelpful. Helpful was the guy working at the large, not-so-nice hardware conglomerate, who suggested using sticky tape on the drill bit to show me how far in to drill). So tomorrow, I’ll actually start to build the frame. That, at least, is the plan.
The hope had been to be using the bath by now… I’m taking it slow and steady. And using my indoor shower.
